Jamie ReaJamie Rea (Shropshire, U.K.)  first came to Spain on his own the summer he was 17. He stayed with his aunty in Granada and became enthralled with the Spanish lifestyle. This fascination led him to frequent Spanish bars in London, where he met his future wife. Today he’s 39 and lives with that girl and their three children an hour’s drive north of Madrid where he works as the director of an international commercial real-estate company. Ernesto SofosErnesto Sofos (Granada 1979) became a photographer to document the marvels of nature that surrounded him when he was growing up in Granada. “Photographing in Sierra Nevada and in the Cabo de Gata (Super) Natural Park  was my way of expressing my worldview and my lifestyle, both to myself and to others. It became an addiction,” he confesses. Over time Ernesto departed from the typical photographer’s path, concerned with technical questions and sensational subjects. “More and more lately,” he says, “I limit myself to places and lights capable of touching one’s soul.” Ernesto’s recent trips have taken him to Greece, the Canary Islands, the North African coasts and the Alps, always in search of the poetry hidden in each place. Bill Booth is a professor of structural geology at the University of Granada. He was born in Granada in 1972 to an English mother and an American father. Except for two years of post-doctoral work at the Geomar Oceanographic Institute in Kiel, Germany, his studies were all in the Spanish public school system. Bill’s hobby is photographing insects and, since this first number of ¡Alegría! is dedicated to Granada we’ve asked him for a selection of insects from there. More…
