Spanish American photos

Post-Battle of Manila Bay

DJ Sta. Ana for–US Navy archivists found 150 old glass plate photographs of the Spanish-American War in the Philippines – pictures that had remained unseen for more than a century. The glass plate photos were kept in two large wooden boxes, stored in an archival storage space at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. Archivists from the US Navy’s Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) discovered the photograph treasure trove last February during an inspection of a backlog of artifacts.

Lisa Crunk, NHHC photo archives head, described the find as “amazing.”
