Condé Nast Traveler Insider’s Guide: Northern Spain Food Reply

 San Sebastian as Diadem

This 13-minute video shows us the highlights of the Conde Nast Traveler’s public television show on Northern Spain, featuring Senior Editors Dana Dickey and Gully Wells, whose stated mission is to learn more about the “intriguing culture of the Basque region of Spain.” They approach life in Spain’s Basque Country through food and wine, of course, but also history, nationalism and personal testimony. The resulting report penetrates a bit deeper than your normal travelogue. The star of the show is San Sebastian, the beautiful seaside town on the Bay of Biscay whose La Concha beach provides sea water lapping at the center of town.

As the main appeal of this upscale holiday destination is food in all its facets: growing it, fishing it, cooking it and, best of all, eating it, the Basque culinary/cultural experience is accessible to all visitors here.

Starting with pintxos, the elegant and creative tapas of the Basque Country and moving on to a sit-down dinner of the local meat or seafood, San Sebastian’s restaurants will not disappoint. Dana and Gully even got to visit one of the famous Basque all-male dining societies. How did they get in? They offered to wash the dishes!
